7 years ago, Lee Heon lost his beloved wife when he was a crown prince. He has now become the King of Joseon. For the past seven years, the royal family and officers tried to get the King a queen. However, they failed to get one. The nation has been implemented a ban on all the single women from getting married before the King. People are furious over the marriage ban.

One day, Lee Heon heard Ye So-Rang, who claims the spirit of the king's late wife exists within the royal palace. Ye So-Rang is a swindler, who interprets martial harmony signs. She is arrested and jailed a few times. Officer Lee Shin-Won caught her as she lied others about their love fate.

To get out of her predicament, Ye So-Rang pretended to be possessed by a spirit in front of Lee Shin-Won. During her ruse, she mentioned that the spirit of King Lee Heon's late wife exists within the royal palace. She was then brought in front of the king and he asked her if she can really see his late wife's spirit. To survive, Ye So-Rang acted like her body is possessed by the king's late wife.

Ye So-Rang wanted to make the King forget about his wife, however, he could not be able to forget about her. He kept asking her to summon his wife to talk to him. Lee Heon also has sleeping difficulty. Everyone was unable to sleep because of him. Ye So-Rang made Lee Heon to work out so that he became tired and felt sleepy. She also challenged him to fight with Lee Shin-Won.

7 years ago, Lee Shin-Won was nearly get married to his fiancé. He went to his fiancé’s house to have a look. He was happy to see her from far and even excited to get marry. During his wedding ceremony, he realised that they switched his fiancé. He was furious and so the marriage ban was imposed. He did not get marry. Lee Shin-Won told his story to Ye So-Rang. He told her that his fiancé was Ye Hyun-Sun. He worked as an investigator in order to trace her whereabout. Ye So-Rang was the one he was looking for. However, she pretended that she was not Ye Hyun-Sun. Lee Shin-Won knew that she was his fiancé but he chose not to expose her identity. In fact, he stayed beside her all the time to protect her.

Ye So-Rang called to serve Lee Heon at night. She tried to make him sleep. She wanted to let him talk rather than she was the one who told him stories. Lee Heon thought of Ye So-Rang as his queen. He accidentally kissed her. Lee Heon was surprised and hoped that she did not realise it. He asked someone to send her to her quarter.

One day, Gwaeng-Yi told Ye So-Rang to watch out for tree and water. Ye So-Rang did not listen to him. At night, she fell into the lake with Lee Heon. Lee Shin-Won rescued her rather than Lee Heon. The King gave him a lecture. The next morning, Lee Heon did not see Ye So-Rang anywhere. Se-Jang told him that she was sick. Lee Heon went for hunting. He was surprised when he saw Lee Shin-Won brought Ye So-Rang to the hunting area. Ye So-Rang kept pushing Lee Heon to hunt for animal. However, he was reminded of his late Queen who scolded him for being cruel to the animal.

Suddenly, there was a wild pig being released to the hunting area. It was chasing Ye So-Rang. She accidentally hit a tree and fall. Lee Heon and Lee Shin-Won attacked the wild pig in order to save her. Other officers came by to congratulate Lee Heon for successfully hunted a big animal. Lee Heon offered this to be serve in the banquet. He real intention was to let Ye So-Rang to enjoy the food with him.

Lee Heon looked around to find Ye So-Rang. He also asked Se-Jang whether she was having her food. He came to his room and found her there. Ye So-Rang told him that she did not eat any of it and collapsed. She had a fever. Lee Heon asked Lee Shin-Won to find a physician to treat her. After examining her illness, Lee Heon decided to take care of her by himself. Ye So-Rang asked why did he kissed her on the other day. She pulled him over her and kissed him. Lee Shin-Won saw this from far. Lee Heo asked Lee Shin-Won to take care of her.

Ye So-Rang became better the next day after treatment. Lee Heon asked about her condition and she told him that she was healthy. Lee Heon had trouble of sleeping. Ye So-Rang suggested to play the truth game. Eventually, she realised that Lee Heon has no love, desire and lust for other woman. In order to make the King fall in love again, she has to think of a solution to help the king. She went back to Aedaldang. She accidentally, met a painter, Jung Do-Seok, who used to draw couples, love and husband and wife series. She asked him for the books so that she can bring them for the King.

Lee Heon had a bad dream. He was shocked after waking up. He also chased Ye So-Rang away. She dropped the book and left his chamber. He felt sorry for her and decided to read the book. He was fascinated with the storyline. Ye So-Rang also gave a few books to Lee Shin-Won. He also enjoyed reading them.

The next morning, Ye So-Rang asked Lee Shin-Won to teach her how to use sword so that she can protect herself. While he was teaching her, Lee Heon saw them together. He was jealous and asked Court Lady Won-Nyeo to call Ye So-Rang to his chamber. Lee Heon asked her what is her relationship with Lee Shin-Won. She told him that both of them are friends.

A servant of Seo Woon-Jung saw Ye So-Rang on the street. She told Seo Woon-Jung about it. Seo Woon-Jung was Ye So-Rang’s stepmother. She tried to kill her 7 years ago. She started to investigate the matter. She went to Aedaldang to find the owner. Gwaeng-Yi managed to stop her from asking more questions. He just simply told her that her daughter will become the queen one day. Ye So-Rang was so excited and went back home to her daughter about the good news. Right after she left, Gwaeng-Yi sent someone to inform Lee Shin-Won not to bring Ye So-Rang come Aedaldang at the moment.

Ye So-Rang’s daughter, Ye Hyun-Hee told her that the fortune teller did not mention about her birth daughter. Ye So-Rang felt that she has a point too. Ye So-Rang arranged her men to attack Ye So-Rang. Lee Shin-Won received the messages and brought her far away. On the way, they have been attacked. Luckily, Lee Shin-Won managed to defeat them. He brought her back to palace.

Court Lady Won-Nyeo and Se-Jang tried to match Ye So-Rang and Lee Heon. They felt that both of them were seeing each other. They asked Lee Shin-Won for help. Lee Shin-Won asked Lee Heon about his feeling. Lee Heon honestly told him that he wanted Ye So-Rang. Lee Shin-Won also told him that he also has feeling for her. Se-Jang and Court Lady Won-Nyeo arranged a date for Ye So-Rang and Lee Heon without their knowing. They informed Lee Shin-Won about it. During that night, Ye So-Rang came to Lee Heon’s chamber as usual. However, Lee Shin-Won grabbed her arm and left together with her.

Ye So-Rang has no idea what was going on. Lee Shin-Won told her their plan for sleeping with Lee Heon. He hugged her tightly. Lee Heon wondered what was going on too. He was furious when Lee Shin-Won took his court lady away. He challenged him to fight in order to take her away. Lee Shin-Won cut off a tiny piece of Lee Heon’s cloth. Lee Heon tried to hit him but Ye So-Rang stopped the fight. She scolded Lee Heon for hurting his best friend.

Se-Jang and Court Lady Won-Nyeo apologised to Lee Heon. They told him their true intention was to protect Ye So-Rang. They mentioned that someone was trying to hurt her. It was lucky that Lee Shin-Won was there to protect her. Lee Heon met up with him. He told him to continue protect her but he has to refrain from falling in love with Ye So-Rang.

Lee Shin-Won asked Gwaeng-Yi how could he knew that Ye So-Rang was in danger. Gwaeng-Yi just simply told him that he saw her fortune for not so good for the upcoming month. He hoped that he can protect her and faced the issue.

In the city was full of rumours about seeing the late Queen in several area. Lee Shin-Won and Ye So-Rang decided to investigate the issue. They discovered that it was a mirror image of the Queen. They believed that pretend herself as a Queen to make the people scare of it. Ye So-Rang, Lee Heon and Lee Shin-Won worked together to catch the culprit. It happened that the culprit has the same appearance as the Queen. Lee Heon kept her in Queen quarter and intended to question her. Unfortunately, Jo Sung-Gyun sent his man to kill her. On the other hand, Jo Sung-Gyun’s subordinate was questioning Ye So-Rang’s true identity. Lee Heon stepped in in order to stop the interrogation. He also punished him for torturing his court lady.

Jo Sung-Gyun’s subordinate asked for him to release him from prison. However, Jo Sung-Gyun sent his man to kill him in the prison. Lee Shin-Won wondered who was the person who killed all of them. At night, Hae-Young and Ye So-Rang have been kidnapped by Jo Sung-Gyun’s men. Hae-Young was sold to another man as wife. Luckily, Chun-Seok and the Jung Do-Seok managed to find her. Lee Heon and Lee Shin-Won also arrived to catch the man. They also went after the Jo Sung-Gyun’s men in order to rescue Ye So-Rang. However, Jo Sung-Gyun’s men faced the bandits. The bandits took Ye So-Rang away.

Ye So-Rang wondered who were they. The Village Chief explained that they were a community to go against marriage ban. They promote love and caring society. He brought her to the community that they tried to build. They also helped those kidnapped woman from escaping from Jo Sung-Gyun’s men. Ye So-Rang did not reveal her court lady identity. In fact, she told them that she was a person who read their marriage fortune.

Suddenly, Lee Heon and Lee Shin-Won came in. They were caught by the bandits. Ye So-Rang tried to explain that both of them were her friends and they were good people. In order to save them, Ye So-Rang possessed the Village Chief’s sister. Village Chief was glad and relieved that he was able to talk to his dead sister. He asked them to join their wedding ceremony. The royal guards suddenly surrounded the villagers. Lee Heon asked the guards to put down their weapon. Everyone was shocked and surprised that he was the King. Lee Heon did not see anyone break the law, so he did not punish all of them. He also promised that he will lift the marriage ban in near future.

Lee Heon’s grandmother met with Ye So-Rang. She hoped that Ye So-Rang did not become her obstacle to choose an appropriate wife for Lee Heon. Ye So-Rang made up her mind to leave the palace. Lee Heon questioned her why she decided to leave. However, she did not mention the reaspn. He grew feeling for Ye So-Rang. He wanted to confess his feeling. He asked his officer for help. At night, Lee Heon confessed his feeling to her. Ye So-Rang felt his sincerity and accepted his love.

As Lee Heon has been away from palace for such a long period, Jo Sung-Gyun tried to find someone to replace the King due to his absent from meeting. Fortunately, Lee Heon managed to come back in time. He punished Jo Sung-Gyun for not doing his duty to catch the kidnappers. In order to revenge, Jo Sung-Gyun and Seo Woon-Jung planned to kill Lee Shin-Won. They started off with Chun-Seok by threatening him with Hae-Young and Lee Shin-Won’s lives. Chun-Seok protected Lee Shin-Won while he has been shot by poisonous arrow. Lee Shin-Won also got an arrow shot on his arm. Lee Heon saw him sitting on the floor with poisonous arrow. He quickly sent him for treatment. Lee Shin-Won’s live was saved, but his arm no longer can use. Lee Shin-Won decided to leave palace as he believed that he no longer has the ability to protect Lee Heon and Ye So-Rang.

Ye So-Rang and Lee Heon worried about Lee Shin-Won. Lee Heon sent his men to look for him. Lee Shin-Won has been found, but he asked them not to look for him anymore. Later, Jung Do-Seok came to the mountain to see him. He was told by Gwaeng-Yi that Lee Shin-Won was around that area. Jung Do-Seok told him about his failed confession to Hae-Young. He was so upset. He decided to hid in the temple to continue his masterpiece. His book has been popular among the people. People are demanding for vol 2 as well.

After hearing his story, Lee Shin-Won decided to go home. At home, he found a box. The box contained the portrait of Ye Hyun-Sun. He realised that Ye So-Rang was his fiancé. He went to see Seo Woon-Jung and asked her about the real Ye Hyun-Sun. Seo Woon-Jung threatened him that Ye So-Rang used a fake identity and lied about her psychic ability. Lee Shin-Won wanted to protect her, so he decided to leave. He moved on to Aedaldang. He was surprised that Gwaeng-Yi was lying on the floor while Hae-Young was trying to wake him up. Lee Shin-Won quickly called for doctor. The doctor told them that Gwaeng-Yi was old and he has not much time left. Lee Shin-Won wrote a letter to Ye So-Rang to inform her about Gwaeng-Yi’s condition.

Lee Heon has been pressured by the officer and people. They were asking him to get a Queen in order to lift the marriage ban. Lee Heon did not want to marry any other woman. He asked his Royal Secretary for help. The Royal Secretary suggested him to make Ye So-Rang pregnant so that she will be chosen as a Queen without going through the selection. Lee Heon tried to lure Ye So-Rang to make love with him, however, he has been rejected.

Royal Secretary then arranged an outdoor camping for them. Eventually, with a few attempts from Lee Heon who tried to impress Ye So-Rang, she decided not to hold back anymore. She received a letter from a servant. She informed Lee Heon about it and headed back to Aedaldang. She was taking care of Gwaeng-Yi for a couple of days. Lee Shin-Won showed up and asked her why she tried to hid her identity and also lied about her psychic ability.

Lee Heon’s grandmother warned him that he should not bring Ye So-Rang back to palace. Seo Woon-Jung told his grandmother about Ye So-Rang faked her psychic ability in order to win the heart of the King. Lee Heon did not believe her until he heard from Ye So-Rang by himself. He was surprised that she lied to him. He was angry and asked her not to come back to the palace. However, he sent his men to protect her secretly.

One day, Ye So-Rang has been attacked by a group of men. The King boyguards stepped in to protect her. Lee Shin-Won was on his way to Aedaldang. He saw the King’s men was fighting with a group of men. He knew that Ye So-Rang was in danger. Ye So-Rang ran as far as she could until she arrived at the edge of the mountain. She fell off into the ocean. Lee Shin-Won witnessed it and jumped into the ocean to rescue her. Unfortunately, he was unable to use his arm, both Ye So-Rang and Lee Shin-Won became unconscious. They were found by the sea by Sung Hwa-Yoon’s father.

Sung Hwa-Yoon was taking care of Ye So-Rang until she fully recovered. She also offered them to stay at her house at the moment so that the kidnapper could not find them. Sung Hwa-Yoon covered her face due to a mark on her face. It was due to the kidnapper who tried to kidnap her and hurt her face. She has been offered to attend the queen selection. Lee Shin-Won mentioned about the woman association. Those families who joined the associates did not get kidnap, especially Ye Hyun-Sun. Ye So-Rang decided to step up and challenged her stepmother and stepsister. She told Sung Hwa-Yoon that she was the real Ye Hyun-Sun. She asked her to bring her to the palace as her maid. Lee Heon coincidently met Lee Shin-Won while he was looking into a case outside the palace. Lee Heon requested him to come back to the palace to protect him.

Lady Won-Nyeo was leaving the palace as she wanted to look for her husband and son. She made a deal with the bandits that if they were able to find her husband and son, she would recommend some court lady for them.

During the first round, Sung Hwa-Yoon was furious that the court lady has changed her name tag with Ye Hyun-Sun. Ye Hyun-Sun got all the praise from Lee Heon’s grandmother who made a fine handcraft. Sung Hwa-Yoon told Ye So-Rang and Lee Shin-Won about it. Ye So-Rang also witnessed Ye Hyun-Sun tried to bribe other court ladies with cookies and jade. Lee Shin-Won decided to enter the palace in order to investigate the unfairness during the queen selection. Lee Heon was happy to see him coming back.  The court ladies pointed out that the jade was given by Lady Won-Nyeo. In order to find out the truth, Lee Shin-Won has to summon Lady Won-Nyeo to assist with the investigation.

Lee Heon also asked Ye So-Rang to come back to palace. They hugged each other tightly as they have been missing one another. Lee Heon understood the reason why Ye So-Rang lied to him about her psychic ability and how she made him opened up his heart for other women.

Sung Hwa-Yoon was selected for the second round of selection. Lee Shin-Won told her his plan on catching the kidnapper. He borrowed her cloths and pretended to be her. He was successfully caught the kidnapper.

During the second round, Ye So-Rang noticed that there was something suspicious with the tea. She made signal to Sung Hwa-Yoon so that she did not drink. She followed her advice. Another candidate drunk that tea and had smallpox. Sung Hwa-Yoon told Ye Hyun-Sun that their table has been switched. Ye Hyun-Sun was surprised and looked out for her hand. Sung Hwa-Yoon then explained that the tea was a poison ivy. She asked the internal court to investigate the matter.

In order to qualify for the 3^rd round, Lee Heon’s grandmother asked them to evaluate each other. Eventually, Sung Hwa-Yoon and Ye Hyun-Sun have been chosen. Ye So-Rang was really happy for Sung Hwa-Yoon. However, Lee Heon’s grandmother suddenly stopped all the maid from leaving. She tried to catch the culprit who put poison ivy inside the tea. Ye So-Rang was nervous because she was the one who touched the tea and founded the cause. She was unable to escape and Lee Heon’s grandmother sent her to prison. Before that, Lee Heon’s grandmother had a short meeting with Ye So-Rang. Ye So-Rang expressed that she understand her intention to catch the real culprit and she was willing to sacrifice herself for the benefit of the nation. She also explained the same to Lee Heon as well.

For the final round, Lee Heon’s grandmother asked both Sung Hwa-Yoon and Ye Hyun-Sun opinion on why they have become the Queen. Sung Hwa-Yoon told her that she would like to withdraw from the selection because she has no intention to be the Queen. She suggested Ye Hyun-Sun to be the Queen as she loved the King very much. She hoped that Lee Heon’s grandmother can make a wise decision for selecting the right person for the King.

Lee Heon’s grandmother interviewed Ye Hyun-Sun’s father. She asked him about his eldest daughter and second daughter before she made an announcement to the public. Lee Heon also invited all the public to enter the palace to hear the news as well. Lee Heon’s grandmother announced that Ye Hyun-Sun has been chosen. Suddenly, there was two people who stepped up. Lee Heon’s grandmother asked Ye Hyun-Sun’s father to verify who was the real Ye Hyun-Sun. Her father was surprised to see his eldest daughter. He revealed their true identities and apologised to Lee Heon’s grandmother for his mistakes for unable to handle his household matter well.

The kidnapper requested Jo Sung-Gyun to meet him at the prison. However, Jo Sung-Gyun has no intention to save him. During the interrogation, Lee Heon asked the kidnapper to reveal his master. The kidnapper did not mention any name. However, he admitted that he was the one who kidnapped the ladies and sold them to rich men. Besides, he also admitted that he was the one who killed the late Queen. In order to prevent the kidnapper from spilling his name, Jo Sung-Gyun ordered his men to kill him. Lee Heon went to the prison and made a deal with the kidnapper. He asked him to go to his master and he will release him from all the charges. The kidnapper went to Jo Sung-Gyun residence. Jo Sung-Gyun was trying to kill him. Eventually, Lee Heon, Lee Shin-Won and royal guards surrounded them. Jo Sung-Gyun was killed when he attempted to kill the King.

On the other hand, Seo Woon-Jung has been punished by hanging herself to die whereas Ye Hyun-Hee was being punished by lowering her social status into servant. Ye Hyun-Sun on the other hand has been sent to the countryside.

Everyone was happy when the marriage ban has been lifted. Hae-Young asked Jung Do-Seok to marry her. He agreed with it. Ye So-Rang and Lee Heon were busy preparing their wedding ceremony. They also tried to match Lee Shin-Won and Sung Hwa-Yoon together. Eventually, both of them were seeing each other. Se-Jang also proposed to Court Lady Won-Nyeo.

Ye So-Rang also assisted Lee Heon to amend some of the laws that would benefits the people. People was relieved and happy that the nation was in stable.  Everyone came to Jung Do-Seok in order for him to draw their portraits. Jung Do-Seok was planning to release his new book by using their characters, named the Marriage Ban.
