Louis's loses her job at the local cafe. She looks for a job at the job seeker centre. She manages to find a job as a companion. Will's mother hire her because of her cheerful personality even though she did not has experience in taking care of people. 

Will acts cold to Louisa. He did not want to talk to her. One day, Will's best friend and his ex-girlfriend came to visit him. They told him that they are engaged. Will is frustrated and chases them away. Will pushes all the photo frame away. Louisa tries to fix the broken fame the next day. They start to have a better conversation with one another. They spend more time together and their relationship become closer. 

Will has a nurse, named Nathan. He helps Will for his physical exercises. When Louisa asks him about his condition, he tells her that he has never regain any use of his body due to damage on his spinal cord. Louisa is petty on his condition.

On day, Louisa overhears the conversation between Will's parents. They received a letter from Diginitis. Will wanted to end his life after 6 months because he does not want to suffer any pain, and he did not want live his life with wheelchair. Louisa tries to change his mind so that he live a happy life without thinking of dying. She does some research on this. They attend horse race together and watch a theatre. Louisa also invited him to her birthday party. Louis's boyfriend is jealous when he sees his girlfriend feeding Will.

Will attends his friend wedding together with Louisa. His ex-girlfriend is glad that he comes. Louisa also plans a trip with Will. She breaks up with her boyfriend when he is jealous that Louisa is going a trip with Will.

They spend a happy moment together. However, these do not change his mind for dying. Louisa is upset that Will still intend to die. Will asks her to come to Switzerland with him and spend the rest of his life there. She refuses it. When the holidays ends, she quits her job and goes back to her home at once.

Louis's father convinces her to visit Will. She then comes to Switzerland and spends the remaining days with him till his last moment.

A few weeks after Will's death, Louisa reads the letter left by Will in his favourite café in Paris. He encourages her to visit a specific perfume shop. He also left her some money for her to follow her dreams.

Nick Young invites his girlfriend Rachel Chu, an economics professor at New York University, to attend his best friend wedding in Singapore. His best friend Colin and his fiancée Araminta Lee picks them up in the airport. In Singapore, Rachel visits her college friend Peik Lin and her family. They are shocked when she tells them she is dating Nick Young. Peik Lin reveals that Nick's family is extremely wealthy and famous, and are members of high society. 

At a dinner party at the Young estate, Nick introduces Rachel to his mother Eleanor and his family. Nick's cousin Astrid discovers that her husband Michael has been having an affair. Rachel feels that Eleanor dislikes her. At Araminta's bachelorette party, Rachel meets Amanda. At first, she thought that she has make some new friends there. However, she turns out that she is Nick's former girlfriend. She hints Rachel may not be able to integrate into such a high-class family with her lower background. Rachel also finds herself being speaks ill by other women who thinks of her as gold digger. They even look down on her. They think that she is no match for Nick, but she is comforted by Astrid. 

Nick attends Colin's bachelor party. He tells to Colin his plan to propose to Rachel. Colin expresses his concern about the trouble that will cause them, since Nick being expected to stay in Singapore and run his family's corporation and Rachel loves her job as a professor in New York. They have huge cultural difference and social status. 

Nick apologizes to Rachel for not telling her who he really was. He takes her to make jiaozi dumplings with his family. Here, Eleanor recounts the sacrifices she made to become a part of the Young family and makes jabs at Rachel for her American background. Eleanor later privately recounts to Rachel how Nick's father had to cast his own green ring to propose to her as Nick's grandmother refused to give him the family ring, owing to Eleanor not being the first or even second choice. She tells Rachel that she will never be enough for Nick or his family. 

Rachel spills her unfairness treatment in his family to her best friend. Peik Lin convinces Rachel to stand up to Eleanor and earns her respect. On the day of the wedding, Astrid confronts Michael about his affair. Michael blames his unhappiness and the great financial disparity between them on her.  During the wedding reception, Eleanor and Nick's grandmother privately confront Rachel and Nick. 

Eleanor presents the private investigation findings to Rachel and blames her for not revealing her true family background.  She is shocked to learn about her true identity. She runs away from the party and stays at Peik Lin's home, depressed and unwilling to speak to Nick. Eleanor and grandmother stop Nick from looking for her. Nick could not find or reach her. 

Kerry, Rachel's mother, arrives in Singapore, explaining that her husband was abusive and that the comfort an old classmate provided turned into love and a surprise pregnancy. She fled with baby Rachel in fear that her husband would kill them. Kerry reveals that Nick was the one who had called her to Singapore and urges Rachel to talk to him. 

When they meet, Nick apologizes and proposes to Rachel, saying that he is willing to leave his family behind to be with her. Rachel arranges to meet Eleanor at a mah-jong parlour. Over a game of mah-jong, she reveals to Eleanor that she declined Nick's proposal so his relationship with his family would not be ruined. She tells Eleanor to remember that when Nick eventually marries someone "good enough" for her, it will be because of a selfless act on the part of Rachel, a girl Eleanor looks down upon. 

Meanwhile, Astrid moves out, telling Michael his ego, insecurities, and unwillingness to make their marriage work caused it to fail. Eleanor has a meeting with Nick. Nick come to the airplane to stop Rachel and Kerry flight back to New York City. He proposes with Eleanor's green ring to Rachel, revealing her blessing. In tears, Rachel accepts and they stay in Singapore one more night for an engagement party, where Eleanor nods at Rachel in acknowledgment, Rachel having finally earned her respect. In a mid-credit’s scene, Astrid and her ex-boyfriend Charlie Wu spot each other at the party. She discreetly smiles.
