Ah Moo
Gae is a servant, the lowest social class in Joseon whereby they are the person
who look down upon them. He has 2
sons and 1 daughter. In order to raise a
better life for his family, he decided to work in outstation with the
permission of his master. Ah Moo Gae thereafter becoming richer and richer. He
decided to secretly kept his wealth in his compound. However, his acts have
been suspicious by his master when one of the servant told the master that Ah
Moo Gae's family started eating rice and see doctor. The master decided to
check on Ah Moo Gae and ordered his relative to seduce Ah Moo Gae's wife. The
wife being bullied and eventually died
after giving birth for their daughter. Ah Moo Gae's anger did not stop him from
killing his master.
There was
a court being held to investigate the cause of death of the master. The
master's wife insisted that Ah Moo Gae was the one who killed his husband. Ah
Moo Gae was smart enough to settle this issue by collaboration with the
magistrate's secretary, kiseang and fellow friends and neighbors who witness
the wrongdoing of the master's relative who caused the death of his wife as
well as cleared his name of murdering the master.
Ah Moo
Gae brought his family and fellow comrade to move to an area called Ikhwan-Ir.
Since they are servant, they don’t have their last name. They came out their
own last name which is "Hong" - means noisy. Ah Moo Gae started his
business for smuggling silk from Ming and sell them to local to make money.
They also owned a silver mining to produce money. One day, another group of
smuggler came over to discuss business with Ah Moo Gae. Ah Moo Gae did not want
to work with them because it was an act that break his code of morals. Both
group began to fight with one another. That smuggler group and that master wife
associated with the Prince, they requested the Prince to punish Ah Moo Gae for
murdering her husband. The Prince captured him, questioned him and flogged him.
Ah Moo Gae barely survived. However, his children was being separated due to
the Prince ordered his men to kill them. Fortunately, all his children was
alive.
Hong Gil
Dong while in the middle of the runway with his sister, he tied his sister 's
hand with a blue cloth to prevent them from being separated. But, due to Gil
Dong was being exhausted and asking for water, his sister tried to get some
water for him but cutting off the cloth. Unluckily, his sister Uh Ri Ni was
captured by someone else. Gil Dong looking for his sister everywhere but still
could not able to locate her. After fighting with the soldiers of the Prince,
Gil Dong was badly injured. He was rescued by a Kiseang. Surprisingly, when the
doctor said he could not be able to rescue due to badly injured, after a couple
of hours, he was able to walk like a normal person. Everyone was surprise with
the fast healing process of his body. People began to suspect that he was
actually a mighty child who has a great strength and healing a very fast speed.
A royal Eunuch did an experiment on Gil Dong and he was proven correct. After
awake from injuries, he has lost his memory. Spending a couple of days working
with Kiseang, they eventually fall in love with one another. Ga Ryung was
working with Kiseang since she was young. She secretly admire Gil Dong even
though she knew that Gil Dong was in love with the Kiseang. When Gil Dong able
to recall his memory, he decided to leave Kiseang house and promised her that
he will be back. But, Kiseang waited him and lastly she decided to go to palace
without waiting for him. By the time Gil Dong came back to the house, he could
not find that Kiseang Gang Hwa. The only one left there was Ga Ryung. She was
waiting for Gil Dong's return and followed him whatever place he went. Without
realizing, Gil Dong fall in love with Ga Ryung and eventually married her.
Gil Dong
wanted to teach the Prince a lesson for what he did to his family. He tried to
put the blame on the prince by connecting him with the case of the king's
father killing his dethroned queen. Gil Hyeon (Gil Dong's brother) who was used
the name of Park Ha Sung worked in the palace as a high rank officer. He also wanted to punish the prince for his
wrongdoing that caused his father to suffer. The prince was being exiled to a
rural area.
After a
few years later, Gil Dong and Gil Hyeon met coincidently. They finally reunited
and worked together to help the people of Joseon from any injustice act. Gil
Dong and the team helped the poor while on the mission to look for his sister.
He eventually found his sister in the end of the story.
Gil Dong told the King regarding the
mistreatment of the people of Joseon. The king however refused to listen to him
and yet harmed him by treating him as hunting animal. The King even ordered the
guard to crush his bones and cut his kneel. Due to speedy recovery of Gil Dong,
he managed to escape from the prison. The King continued to use violence as
punishments to those who refused to obey his order. He believed that by
creating fear in people would make them obey him. The King does not want to be
controlled by the ministers as what has been done by the past Kings. The King
has been out of mind resulting many innocent people being killed.
Gil Dong
could not stand the King's act. He decided to stood out to fight for the right
of the people. During the war with the King, the King captured his wife and
threaten him to make a choice whether he would choose his wife over the people.
Gil Dong loved his wife so much, however he also wanted to fight for the
people. It was such a hard decision to be made. He then make up his mind by
shooting his wife and fight with the soldiers. Gil Dong requested his team to
take care of his wife while he
concentrated on fighting with the soldiers. They finally won the fight. After
the fight, the King has been troubled psychologically. His mind does not in a
healthy state. Gil Dong influenced the people to raise a revolution against the
current King. However, he did told the King-to-be prince that he will keep
watching him over so that he did his job as a King. All other people that
involved in trying to kill Gil Dong was all faced severe punishment in the end.
It was a
heart-warming story that showed how a rebel understand what the people facing
and how the rules are unfairly applied to the lowly social status like him. It
also showed the darkness of the politician who abused their power to gain power
and wealth from the poor. It also revealed the misruling by the King who make
his people suffer without caring for their needs.
I love
the story. I like the actor Yoon Kyun Sang who did very well in his acting. I
was a bit disappointed that he was not won for the best actor for this drama. I
was impressed by Yoon Kyun Sang as I never thought that he could deliver such a
great drama. In the past drama, he also played his role well, but in this
drama, he proven to me that he did much more better than previous drama Pinocchio.
